Arts Council logoThe Arts Council of Fairfax County, Inc. was founded in 1964 by a group of interested citizens and the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to ensure the cultural quality of life for Fairfax. Its purpose is to advocate and coordinate the preservation, promotion and expansion of the visual, audio and performing arts in Fairfax County for arts groups, business groups and individual businesses, education groups, county citizens and county government. It assists in cultural facility plans and with long range planning for development of the arts and art facilities. The Arts Council speaks for the arts at the local, state and national levels. Its primary message is to reinforce the importance of the arts to County residents and to the County’s economic development by assuring that the cultural quality of life positively contributes to making Fairfax County a superior place to work, live and do business. It is the only county-wide non-profit organization that promotes the overall cultural investment that the community makes in Fairfax County. The Arts Council relies extensively on private contributions and on public funding for its operating resources.
