Education

DUJDC is dedicated to the perpetuation of Jazz Dance as a unique American art form.
Demonstration Programs:

For school students we often present 30-50 minute educational programs, which we call That’s Jazz Dance.  During these programs students, not normally exposed to the dance arts, discover Jazz and Theatrical dance, watch a mini Jazz Dance Concert, participate in a discussion, and depending on the time available might join the dancers on stage for some simple jazz dance moves.

The program consists of many aspects of Jazz dance (classical jazz, Broadway jazz and hip hop) to entertain and to educate the audience about the value of dance in their lives.  The program can be tailored with some pieces abbreviated for demonstration purposes and other full length jazz dance numbers.

Dancin’ Unlimited’s demonstration programs present the art of jazz dance to audiences by bringing a sampling of high quality jazz dance pieces performed by members of our professional dance company.  Our jazz dance demonstration programs are suitable to audiences of all ages and can be easily customized and priced to meet your special needs.

Jazz Dance Training:

Dancin’ Unlimited also offers Jazz Dance training in varied formats:

DUJDC Blog:

DUJDC invites you to contribute to our blog.  We are interested in the ways dancers, choreographers and instructors, across the country have applied and adapted jazz dance techniques, and created new jazz dances.  Feel free to send us short reviews, jazz dance history tidbits, as well as ways you see jazz dance fusing with contemporary dance into the future.  When you find resources – books, articles, websites and other blogs – please send them to us!  Just submit your piece via our Contact page.  Give us a few days for a quick review and then we’ll post it on our Blog.

Why?  Jazz dance is America’s indigenous dance form!

The importance and value of dance in our culture is that it provokes creativity, imagination, critical and analytical awareness and intuition. This happens in a way that highlights problem-solving and decision-making methods, and skills leading to multiple ways of expressing thoughts and emotions. It also can result in better communications, the acceptance of difference and opposition, and ultimately to co-operation and harmony.

The arts contribute to community vitality. A growing body of research points to the arts as an engine for civic renewal. Citizen engagement in the arts creates a strong shared identity and instills pride in our country’s cultural heritage.

The arts foster civic participation and a strong democracy. The arts enhance our ability to illustrate viewpoints, to dramatize issues, to inspire action and to see things through the eyes of others, all necessary components of a thriving democracy. Americans who engage in the arts are more likely to engage in other aspects of community life, such as voting and volunteering. The arts also enhance civic dialogue, capturing the American experience and giving voice to our joys and aspirations and the conscience of our communities.

The arts are a communications asset in a global society. The arts build bridges among people. They facilitate intercultural understanding and provide a common lexicon for building relationships in an increasingly diverse and global society.
